Running at the Beach

A quad-tanka poem by Shazzar Kallie

Running at the beach
enraptures the runner’s soul
into nature’s realm
as the roar of waves and wind
surround and siege the senses.

Dry sand brings struggle
to the stride as stamina
nourishes the heart.
Each step leaves sunken footprints
to form a trail of triumph.

The billows beckon
as the path progresses on
through Earth’s elements
soaked in the shore’s foam white waves
as seagulls grace the blue sky.

I run like a horse
with a chariot of fire
on the golden sand
gazing at the horizon
where the ocean meets the sky.
