Righteousness

A quad-tanka poem by Shazzar Kallie

I seek righteousness
as a divine thirst quencher.
The living water
that rains on me from Heaven,
cleansing my body and soul.

There are no deserts
in my mind, places devoid
of sustaining growth,
which manifests as the roots
and fruit of the tree of life.

I drink righteousness
on my path to enter gates
of Heaven and walk
streets of gold after this life.
A time I will thirst no more.

To become righteous
is to be an oasis
and fountain of life
in a desert of despair
as God washes sins away.
