I Am
I Am
By Shazzar Kallie

I am a man who lives to write and run.
I wonder will I ever win the Nobel Prize for Literature
or a track and field Olympic Gold Medal?
I hear the sounds of literary praises, and the cheers
of stadium crowds as I stand on the top pedestal.
I see long lines of autograph book seekers
and stadiums filled with people exalting my name.
I want to achieve a destiny filled with greatness and fame.
I am a man who lives to write and run.

I pretend to sign autographs in my notebook,
and imagine me crossing the finish line first.
I feel God giving me the desire to quench
my literary, athletic and competitive thirst.
I touch every soul I come in contact with.
I worry about doubt and fear making
the realization of my dreams a myth.
I cry every time a dream deferred makes me sigh.
I am a man who lives to write and run.

I understand faith and hard work makes anything possible.
I say to myself there is no unconquerable obstacle.
I dream one day I will accomplish my goals
and become the writer and runner I want to be.
I try to bring into reality everything
my creativity and imagination can see.
I hope one day to make God my father proud,
and achieve greatness and stand out from the crowd.
I am a man who lives to write and run.
