Champion

A quad-tanka poem by Shazzar Kallie

Run for the true prize
without the pursuit of gold
in the race of life
to face fear without limits
and test the faith of the heart.

Each race has purpose
to reach the ultimate goal
that comes with a price
of exertion, sweat and tears
in pushing self boundaries.

The strong and swift fail
to finish the race without
steadfast endurance
to see the competition
to its end over hurdles.

Run with eagle's wings.
Turn trials into triumph,
because there is no
victory without defeat
to become a champion.
