A Taste

A quad-tanka poem by Shazzar Kallie

Can I have a taste
of your personality?
I want to listen
as you speak words that arouse
my mind's perception of you.

From afar I gazed
at your profile, smile and style,
but now you are close.
I want to reach out and hold
your hand with a soft caress.

Glances are stolen
when our eyes do not connect.
Your presence becomes
the fuel that sustains the fire,
which engulfs my heart's desire.

You have inspired me
to turn my thoughts into words.
I want to recite
the poetry of my soul
in your ears into your heart.
